Mystical Cave
"Mystic Cave" is an atmospheric mix with the acoustics of an underground cave with ritual context: a base of damp cave (long reverberation), with a quiet Om (resonating), an occasional gong, water dripping and barely audible subterranean hum on top. An image from sacred caves — Maratika cave (Bhutan), Kumaran caves (Greece), Shambhala cave in Tibetan myth, Atashkadeh caves in Zoroastrianism.
The cave as a spiritual symbol is present in all world religions. Plato in The Republic used the cave as a metaphor for consciousness. In Hindu and Buddhist traditions cave meditation (guha-dhyana) is the highest form of practice. For shamans it is the "underworld," a place of meeting with spirits. Modern depth psychology (Jung) sees the cave as a symbol of the unconscious. Vergne and colleagues (Acta Acustica, 2007) showed that the closed acoustics of caves with long reverberation create a unique "acoustic return" state in listeners — sound returns to us, as if "a message from the deep."
Use this mix for deep meditation (30+ minutes), for writing mystery, horror and philosophical prose (Eco's "The Name of the Rose," Kafka, Borges), for podcasts on folklore, mythology and Jungian psychology, for people exploring depth psychology, for wellness retreats with an "inner immersion" theme, and for gamers with underground levels. Pairs with Cave Meditation (meditative variant), In a Cave (natural kin), Deep Underwater (kin isolation). Not for sleep — anxious.
