Train Journey is a travel mix for long railway trips: a base of passenger train (the characteristic clack-clack of wheels), with muffled voices from neighbouring compartments, a quiet air conditioner and occasional rain outside the window on top. Train journeys carry particular psychological significance in literature and culture. From Tolstoy (Anna Karenina) to Christie (Murder on the Orient Express), the train is a place of literary concentration, a metaphor of life's journey, a container of meetings and partings. Psychophysiologically the rhythmic clack-clack of wheels at 80 to 120 km/h is close to 1 to 2 Hz, the band of deep-sleep delta waves. Bayer and colleagues (Current Biology, 2011) showed that measured low-frequency vibration accelerates falling asleep. This explains the hypnotic effect of trains familiar to travellers.
