"Evening by the Fireplace" is a relaxation mix with the acoustics of a winter or autumn evening by a real fireplace: a base of cozy fireplace (crackling embers with a light low hum), with winter wind outside the window and a quiet ticking clock on top. The image from English and Northern European homes — a sitting room with a blazing fireplace where the family gathers in the evening.
The fireplace is one of the canonical "softly fascinating" sounds per Berto (Behavioural Sciences, 2014). The dry crackling of logs is an aperiodic event: each "snap" is unique and unpredictable in timing, but the average rhythm stays steady. This "predictable on average, unpredictable in the moment" structure is a psychoacoustic ideal for attention restoration after mental load. Additionally the low-frequency hum (combustion gives a 20–120 Hz band) activates the parasympathetic system by the same mechanism as cat purring.
