Sunset Walk
Sunset Walk is a relaxation mix with the acoustics of a long evening stroll at sunset: a base of long footsteps on a gravel path, with birdsong (evening chorus), a light breeze and a distant seagull cry on the horizon. The image from Scottish, Scandinavian and Canadian landscape literature: a lone slow walk through dunes, meadows or coastal paths.
The mix emulates one of nature's most effective anti-stress scenarios. Marselle and colleagues (Frontiers in Psychology, 2019) showed that nature walks of 60 to 90 minutes statistically significantly reduce rumination (the repetitive mental chewing of problems that is depression's main mechanism). The acoustic component (footsteps plus nature) separately works as an embodiment simulator: Niedenthal and colleagues (Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2010) showed that listening to movement sounds activates the same cortical zones as real movement, partially compensating for sedentary people's step deficit.
Use this mix for those who can't go for a walk (bad weather, illness, no time), for slow walking around the room or on a treadmill, for a meditative mental walk with eyes closed (15 minutes of active listening after the workday), for writing landscape prose, or for people experiencing mild depression or winter SAD.
