Mountain Creek is a nature scene with the acoustics of a fast Alpine mountain creek: a base of mountain river (a close energetic flow), with distant Alpine birdsong, a light mountain breeze and the occasional bleat of sheep on a far pasture on top. The sound of running water is one of the most scientifically confirmed anti-stress categories. Alvarsson and colleagues (International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2010) showed that listening to water sounds after a stressor accelerates autonomic nervous system recovery by an average of 37% compared with silence. A mountain creek is especially effective because its spectrum is broader than that of a lowland river: rapid flows create a hot high-frequency component, while the low-frequency hum from the water volume forms the base.
Use this mix for office rest breaks (15-minute pauses by water are a known anti-stress technique), for an endless-motion meditation, for writing mountain prose (Hesse, Mann, or Mayakovsky's Caucasian mountains), for mountain or mountain-themed yoga, for travel podcasts, or as natural pink noise for light concentration.
