0Running shower
"Shower" is the soundscape of pressurised water flowing through a shower head: continuous dense broadband noise of many small jets striking ceramic tile and the tub, light hiss in the highs (from the tiniest droplets), a low-frequency component from bathroom resonance. Spectrally close to ideal pink noise with a slight high-end emphasis from fine droplets.
Acoustically the shower is a paradoxical example of a "creativity illusion." Psychologist Mareike Wieth (Thinking & Reasoning, 2011) documented the "shower effect": people far more often report "the best ideas come to me in the shower." The explanation is multifactorial: (1) monotonous broadband noise triggers "mind wandering" — a wandering-attention state in which the brain freely makes unexpected associations; (2) sensory stimulation of warm water activates the parasympathetic system and lowers "cognitive self-control"; (3) physical isolation from phones and screens gives the brain 5–10 minutes of clean space. The recording captures the first of these — the acoustic part.
Use this track for creative work (especially idea generation and brainstorming), for "cleansing" meditation, for writing domestic and intimate prose, for people under stress (a warm shower is a known anti-stress practice; the acoustic part works similarly), and to mask neighbour noise. Pairs with Pink Noise, Raging Waterfall, Hot Tub. Suitable for sleep.
