ADHD Focus
"ADHD Focus" is a specialised mix for people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: a base of pink noise at moderate volume, with a steady 68 bpm rhythm and barely perceptible air conditioner on top. Paradoxically a "louder" mix than for neurotypical concentration — because an ADHD brain works better with more acoustic stimulation.
This is counterintuitive but scientifically confirmed. Söderlund and colleagues (Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 2007), in a foundational study, showed that for children and adults with ADHD tendencies, moderate white or pink noise statistically significantly improves performance on tasks demanding sustained attention. The mechanism is "stochastic resonance": the dopamine system in people with ADHD is hypoactive, and external noise "compensates" for the deficit of internal stimulation, helping to keep the attention signal above the awareness threshold. The same effect is described by Helps and colleagues (Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, 2014).
Use this mix for ADHD for work tasks (especially monotonous or long-form), for teens with ADHD while studying, for adults with newly diagnosed adult ADHD, for accounting and clerical work, and for people during a medication "trough" (when the stimulant no longer works and it's not yet time for the next). Volume higher than for regular focus mixes: 55–65 dB. Pairs with 60 bpm Drum A (clear tempo), Pomodoro (for discipline), White Noise (to amplify).
