Tinnitus Mask

For Tinnitus is a therapeutic mix for people suffering from ringing in the ears: a base of pink noise at moderate volume, with air conditioner, highway noise and brown noise on top: a broadband masking composition specifically tuned against tinnitus.

Tinnitus is the subjective perception of ringing, buzzing or whistling in the ears without an external source. About 10 to 15% of adults in developed countries suffer from it (Baguley and colleagues, Lancet, 2013), and for 1 to 2% of people it becomes a serious problem. The standard medical recommendation is sound masking: a broadband background noise that covers the internal ring. Hoare and colleagues (BMJ Open, 2014), in a systematic review, confirmed that pink and brown noise at moderate volume are the most effective maskers for most kinds of tinnitus.

Use this mix for acute or chronic tinnitus to mask the ringing (the mix should be 5 to 10 dB louder than the internal tone, no more), for falling asleep with tinnitus (ringing is usually more pronounced in silence), for working with tinnitus (when ringing impairs concentration), or for people recovering from acoustic trauma (concerts, weapons). Important: the mix doesn't cure tinnitus, only masks it, and doesn't replace a visit to an ENT or audiologist. Chronic tinnitus requires specialist consultation. Pairs with Pink Noise, Brown Noise or For Anxiety (since anxiety often heightens tinnitus perception).
