PTSD Calming
For PTSD is a therapeutic mix for people with post-traumatic stress disorder: a base of birdsong (peaceful natural background), with 432 Hz, purring and a light breeze on top. The safe-place mix, what trauma therapy calls a safe place: an inner image of safety to which the patient can return when triggered.
PTSD is a serious psychiatric disorder developing after traumatic events (war, violence, accidents, loss). Foa and colleagues (Effective Treatments for PTSD, Guilford Press, 2008) described creating a safe place as a key part of therapy: an inner refuge to which the patient can return during flashbacks. The music-and-sound component of this technique is a specially chosen background that activates associations of peace, nature and safety. The mix contains no potentially triggering sounds: no sirens, no explosions, no shouts, no high-frequency peaks.
Use this mix at the first signs of an approaching flashback (as a grounding technique), during EMDR therapy sessions (in agreement with the therapist), for people with chronic PTSD as a daily 20-minute practice, to prepare for potentially triggering situations (anniversaries of trauma, visits to difficult places), or for veterans, refugees and survivors of violence. Important: the mix is a supporting measure within a psychotherapy package. PTSD requires professional treatment. Pairs with For Anxiety (chronic background) or Seaside Meditation (deepening). Do not combine with Bombardment, Sirens or any triggering sounds.
