Morning Meditation
Morning Meditation is the headline meditative mix for daily morning practice: a base of singing bowl (as a sonic bell of beginning), with Om mantra at low volume, 432 Hz and barely audible morning birdsong outside the window on top. A structured morning practice built on yoga-tradition canons: breath focus, warm sound, natural underlayer.
Morning meditation is one of the most researched forms of meditative practice. Goyal and colleagues (JAMA Internal Medicine, 2014), in a systematic review of 47 randomised studies, showed that eight weeks of regular morning meditation of 15 to 20 minutes statistically significantly reduce anxiety, depression and pain. The effect is comparable to antidepressant therapy but without side effects. Musical accompaniment, especially in the form of singing bowls and mantras, eases entering the meditative state, as confirmed by Goldsby and colleagues (Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2017).
Use this mix for daily morning practice (15 to 30 minutes), for yoga (especially Hatha or Vinyasa), for breathing techniques (pranayama), for people starting meditation practice, to prepare for the workday (especially with many meetings), or for writing on spiritual literature. Start after waking, before breakfast, in a quiet room. Pairs with Slow Morning (transition into the day), Tibetan Practice (more classical form) or Forest Meditation (natural variant).
