Tibetan Practice

Tibetan Practice

"Tibetan Practice" is a deep meditative mix in the style of the Himalayan Buddhist tradition: a base of singing bowl (long, with overtones), with melodic gong, a low Tibetan chant and a barely audible 432 Hz underlay on top. The acoustic "Gelugpa monastery in Lhasa" or "Dzogchen retreat in Bhutan" — an image from Tibetan spiritual culture.

Tibetan meditative practice is one of the most developed meditative systems in history. Lutz and colleagues (PNAS, 2004), in a foundational study, showed that in experienced Tibetan monks (practising over 10,000 hours), unique neurophysiological activity is recorded during meditation: high-amplitude gamma waves (25–70 Hz) with a level of synchronisation not previously observed in healthy adults. These waves correlate with states of deep awareness and compassion. Tibetan bowls and chants have historically been used as "sonic anchors" to ease entry into these states.

Use this mix for deep meditation (30+ minutes), for experienced yogis and Buddhists, for those studying Tibetan Buddhism, for writing spiritual literature (the Dalai Lama, Chögyam Trungpa, Shantideva), for Tibetan culture podcasts, and for home meditative retreats. Play at low volume (35–45 dB) — the sound should be "immersive," not "dominant." Pairs with Sound Bath (to amplify), Morning Meditation (preparation), Om Mantra (kin motif).
