Panic Calm
For Panic is a therapeutic mix for acute panic attacks: a base of steady 60 bpm Drum B (as a supporting heartbeat), with slow ocean waves and 432 Hz on top. The acoustic anchor mix: something to lean on with attention during panic.
A panic attack is an acute episode of sympathetic hyperactivation, usually lasting 5 to 20 minutes. Boyko (Journal of Anxiety Disorders, 2017) documented that one of the most effective non-pharmacological techniques during panic is sensory grounding: focusing attention on specific sensory stimuli (sound, tactile feel, breath). This pulls the brain out of the catastrophising loop and returns it to the present moment. A steady slow rhythm works as an ideal anchor: predictable, emotion-free, physiologically matching the target heart rate.
Use this mix during an acute panic attack: put on headphones, close your eyes, breathe to the tempo (one inhale per four beats, exhale per six beats). Length: 5 to 20 minutes until the attack ends. Also use it at the first signs of an approaching panic (as a preventive measure), before potentially stressful events (if you have a history of panic attacks), or after an attack to recover. The mix is a supporting technique, not a replacement for psychotherapy and medication. Recurrent panic attacks require psychiatrist consultation. Pairs with For Anxiety (chronic background) or 60 bpm Drum A (to deepen the anchor).
