HIIT Cardio

HIIT Cardio

"Interval Cardio" is an extremely energetic sports mix for HIIT (high-intensity interval training): a base of 94 bpm Drum A (fast, brisk), with syncopated taiko, stadium crowd and city noise on top. "Sprint intervals," "Tabata," "CrossFit WOD" — an image of contemporary intense physical culture.

HIIT is one of the most effective training formats. Gibala and colleagues (Journal of Physiology, 2012) documented that 7 minutes alternating sprints and rest give the same cardio effect as 60 minutes of steady-state aerobics. However HIIT is psychologically very hard — it requires "push-through" past the comfort zone. Musical accompaniment at a fast tempo eases this critically: Karageorghis (2017) showed that synchronisation with fast music reduces perceived fatigue by 18% for the same physical effort.

Use this mix for HIIT workouts (8–20 minutes), for Tabata (4-minute max), for interval running, for CrossFit WODs, for boxing and martial arts, for intense cardio careers (stepper, elliptical, exercise bike), and for those working on fat burning. Session length: 8–30 minutes. Pairs with Workout (strength analogue), Morning Run (moderate variant), Sports Bar (context). Not for long sessions — exhausting. Not for elderly people and those with cardiovascular disease without a doctor.
