Stormy Night
"Stormy Night" is a dramatic but still sleep-inducing mix with the acoustics of a summer downpour with thunder: a base of jungle rain (the densest rain in the collection), with frequent thunderclaps and occasional whistling wind in the canopy on top. This is a more "saturated" version of Rainy Night — thunder here is not distant but medium-close, and rain falls intensely.
Paradoxically, an intense storm often works as a strong sleep aid. Larson (Journal of Environmental Psychology, 2016) described the "storm-induced safety" phenomenon: when there is a storm outside, the brain subconsciously registers that it is in shelter (inside the house under the roof) and activates a "protective mode" with lower sympathetic activity. This explains why many people describe sleeping best on stormy nights. Psychoacoustically thunder gives powerful low-frequency peaks (30–80 Hz) that mask any city or neighbour noise.
Use this mix if you need a "strong" sleep aid — after a very stressful day, when ordinary sleep won't come, or just because you love storms. Works well for writing dark, atmospheric prose (Poe, Lovecraft, Stephen King), for podcasts on weather and nature, and for "sheltered in storm" meditation. Pairs with Cozy Fireplace (for absolute shelter) and Rainy Night (mixed palette). Not for active work.
